The Deets
The Administrative Intern will assist with all aspects of administration and production of 2nd Floor Rear 2014.
2nd Floor Rear is an annual 24-hour festival of alternative spaces, apartment galleries, and ephemeral and migrant projects celebrating Chicago’s vibrant community of alternative and DIY art spaces. Thanks to a special grant from the Propeller Fund, this season, we are pleased to offer a paid internship to an aspiring cultural producer. The 2014 Administrative Intern will receive a monthly stipend for the duration of the internship, and will be eligible for a bonus upon the internship’s completion.
Compensation: $250 monthly stipend
Duration: December 1, 2013-March 1, 2014
Hours: Approx. 10 hours per week, flexible schedule
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting research on potential collaborators and partnerships
- Brainstorming ideas for public programming
- Developing marketing and fundraising strategies
- Communicating with artists, arts organizations, local businesses, and press
- Recruiting and managing volunteers
- Collecting and managing paperwork and payments for festival participants and freelance employees
- Compiling information and managing databases using Google docs
- Responding to emails in a timely and professional manner
- Scheduling, attending, and taking notes for meetings between the festival Director and other parties
- Managing printed materials
- Managing social media
- Coordinating the distribution of supplies and materials to participants
- Remaining on call for the duration of the 24-hour festival

An ideal candidate will:
- Exhibit interest and/or knowledge of alternative and DIY art practices in Chicago
- Have previous knowledge of Chicago’s artistic and cultural history
- Have an interest and/or prior experience with grassroots fundraising, marketing, and social media
- Be a social media WIZARD
- Be adept at using Adobe programs, Google platforms, and WordPress
- Have an ear for intelligent writing and an eye for good design
- Work well with a variety of publics and feel comfortable reaching out to others in a professional capacity
- Contribute original ideas for programming and partnerships, and feel comfortable giving and receiving feedback
- Understand 2nd Floor Rear’s purpose, voice, and brand
- Have lots of energy
- Have a particular interest in evening and late-night programming
- Have a special understanding of the needs and interests of arts audiences aged 18-25
Bonus points for:
- Knowing a score of great DJs, photographers, or other potentially useful persons
